What makes a dance floor?

A room and a sound system are a start. What happens between the people in that room is the part we care about most.

Bring your own history.

Every person hears a track through a different set of memories. A rhythm can remind one person of home and introduce someone else to something completely new. That exchange is a big part of why Project Kulture exists.

We’re rooted in South Asian culture, and our dance floor is open to everyone. Those two things belong together. The people on the decks and in the crowd should have room to bring all of themselves.

Leave some room for surprise.

A good set can take a turn you didn’t expect. Give an unfamiliar sound a minute. There’s a particular kind of connection in a room discovering a track together.

Look out for each other.

Give people space. Ask before filming them. Check in when someone looks uncomfortable. You don’t need to know a person to help them feel welcome.

We move as family. It starts with how we treat the person next to us.
